What this service covers
Family Visa is a visa for foreigners who have Lao family members. Lao people can sponsor their family members to come and live in the Lao PDR.
Family members who will be granted a family visa:
Husband or wife: legally married.
Natural or adopted children: legally married, not older than 18 years old.
Father and mother: with the same surname.
Documents required:
Visa applicant's documents: copy of passport and photo
Guarantor's documents: certificate of address, ID card or census
Document proving relationship
Husband or wife: copy of marriage certificate
Natural or adopted children: Birth Certificate
Father and Mother: A signed certificate of relationship from the sponsor's home or the census office.
Rights Family visa holders have the right to reside and live in the Lao PDR legally.
Restrictions Family visa holders are prohibited from engaging in any profession or work. If you intend to work or do business, you must apply for a visa change and register for a separate work permit or business permit.
Process
Before entering the Lao PDR, the sponsor must complete all necessary documents, submit registration, and apply for a companion visa. The processing time is 10 business days.
After entering the Lao PDR, the sponsor or family visa holder must submit the original passport with the visa affixed and stamped at the Lao border checkpoint to apply for a residence permit and multiple-entry visa according to the initial visa validity period. The processing time is 10 business days.
